The Effervescence Unleashed Cocktail of the Month for January 2025 is the Sparkling Negroni Sbagliato Cocktail. We modified this recipe slightly and used an amaro instead of Campari and a red sparkling wine instead of Prosecco.
- 1 1/2 ounces sweet vermouth: The Wine Collective Vermu
- 1 1/2 ounces Campari or Amaro: Copper Fox Distillery Amaro y Arroyo
- 1 1/2 ounces sparkling wine: Horton Vineyards Knots & Shuttles (NV)
- Orange peel, for garnish (optional)
Method
- Fill a shaker with ice and add the Campari and sweet vermouth. Shake well.
- Strain the mixture into preferred vessel.
- Top with sparkling wine.
- Garnish with an orange peel, if desired
The Copper Fox Distillery’s Amaro y Arroyo is handcrafted with over 25 different botanicals and produced with 100% Virginia grain. The botanicals macerate in Bourbon Mash Spirit and rest in used Virginia bourbon barrels for 2–3 months. The Amaro is then finished in used Virginia wine barrels infused with hand-cut toasted chestnut wood, and sweetened with local honey, agave, and cane sugar.
The Wine Collective is Baltimore’s first urban winery and the Vermú Sweet Vermouth is made with orange rind, elderberries, sage, artichoke leaf, thyme, galangal root, cinnamon, vanilla, and wormwood. The Vermu is made from carefully grown grapes and with minimal intervention and minimal added sulfites, and it is 100% vegan.
The Horton Vineyards Knots & Shuttles (NV) is a red sparkling wine made from 100% Tannat. A rarity on many levels. The winery is a pioneer in the modern Virginia wine industry and today is managed by three generations of Horton women.
