The clinking of glasses, the buzz of conversation, the intoxicating aroma of fresh-pressed apples – CiderCon® 2024 in Portland was a whirlwind of cider magic that left attendees grinning (and probably slightly buzzed) from ear to ear.
Nestled in the heart of the City of Roses, this year’s conference was a vibrant celebration of everything cider, bringing together industry veterans, curious newcomers, and everyone for a few days of learning, laughter, and libations.
From Orchard to Glass: A Deep Dive into Cider Craft
From the bustling Cider Share showcasing diverse ciders across the globe to the insightful workshops delving into everything from orchard management to branding and marketing, CiderCon® offered an array of knowledge for every palate. Whether you were perfecting your homebrew technique or dreaming of launching your cidery, there was something to ignite your passion and challenge your cider horizons. There were 38 educational sessions held during CiderCon® covering Crafting Amazing Cider, Doing Better Business, Exploring Cider’s Flavor & Terroir, and Growing Bountiful Apples. Once again, the Cider Institute of North America helped develop the Crafting Amazing Cider track sessions.
Oregonian Hospitality Shines Through in the Ice
CiderCon® wouldn’t be complete without a healthy dose of Portland charm. From the first day I arrived, Portland did its level best despite harsh winter conditions, iced sidewalks, and hotel closures. The BevFluence team worked with The New York Cider Association to host an event at the 6th-floor metropolitan tavern’s cosmopolitan ballroom, and it was a resounding success. Dozens of NY ciders were shared, hundreds of attendees poured in to taste, and the local duo played softly in the corner. The cider flowed, and those making the trip from New York seemed to hold a special place in the attendees’ minds. The event showcased interesting ciders from the Empire State paired with snacks and Doughnuts, which are highly regarded in Portland.
Beyond the Bubbles: Industry Insights and Future Predictions
However, CiderCon® wasn’t just about bubbles and beats. The keynote addresses discussed the theme for this year’s CiderCon®: Connecting to Consumers in an Age of Endless Choice. Panel discussions delved into technological advancements, consumer trends, and the challenges and opportunities facing cideries of all sizes. As always, CiderCon® served as a vital platform for shaping the future of cider, with innovative ideas and collaborative spirit fueling the conversations.
Farewell, Portland. Until Next Time!
As the final cheers echoed through the ballroom, one thing was clear: CiderCon® 2024 was a resounding success. It was a week of learning, connecting, and celebrating the vibrant cider world. And while we bid farewell to Portland, inspiration and the taste of exceptional ciders will linger long after the last glass is drained.
